McDonald’s Germany tasked Spark with the music rights clearances for their retro mini radio campaign.

The original iconic mini radios were first launched over 20 years ago. As part of a bigger retro campaign, 2026 saw the mini radio’s relaunched in Germany.

Avril Lavigne ‘Sk8er Boi’, Katy Perry ‘I Kissed A Girl’, Justin Bieber ‘Sorry’, CRO ‘Traum’ and Britney Spears ‘Toxic’ are the iconic line up of artists and songs from the 2000s that were featured on the mini radios. The customers of McDonald’s could pick their choice of radio when they paid an additional €2,50 per radio.

Spark cleared the master and publishing rights for all songs and also negotiated the duplication rights fee for the sound chips of the mini radios with GEMA, Germany’s copyright society.

The music was also used in conjunction with influencers and online ads.

Spark set up all relevant agreements and coordinated the invoicing process for all parties involved.
