About Sky

Sky is the leading pay-TV service in Germany and Austria with approximately 3.5 million subscribers. Since the launch of the Sky brand in July 2009, the company has significantly expanded the depth and breadth of its programme offering, launched many innovations and enhanced its customer service. The results can be seen in the company’s strong performance, with continuous operational and financial progress, as well as improvements in viewer ratings, value-for-money scores, customer recommendations and, most importantly, high satisfaction levels.

Sky Germany appointed Spark to negotiate music clearance for Sky Germany’s major football campaign.

The song that we cleared was ‘Song 2’ by British band blur. This song has an almost unparalleled instant recognition by football fans as it is played in most football stadiums. It has that high energy vibe which is underlined by the unique guitar riff and the even more famous lyric ‘Whoohoo!’ which in combination is the perfect fit for fast paced football footage in Sky’s TV ad. It’s also a song that is quite difficult to clear.

Spark negotiated the fees and the contracts for the use of the track with the music publisher and record label as a one-stop solution for Sky.  Patrizia Caruselli, MD of Spark’s Zurich office comments: ‘We are proud that we were able to secure this song for Sky Germany. The spot is full of energy and action – a perfect fit for the song”.
