Matthias Bauss

Managing Partner & Co-Founder

Matthias is the Managing Partner of Spark’s group of companies. Besides running the London office he is in charge of the creative process and all artist and repertoire matters across all Spark companies.

Matthias Bauss co-founded Spark after leaving Warner Music International where he held the position of International Director TV Marketing & Market Research for 4 years. Responsible for the territory of World ex. US, he was in charge of growing, facilitating, developing and producing single-artist and multi-artist compilations. This included chairing international conferences, carrying out market research, negotiating with rights owners and artist managements, and creating and producing new albums/products and marketing tools including TV ads. It also included overseeing the marketing and promotion of those products in all countries where Warner Music had affiliates or distribution partners.

In close cooperation with the artist managements, estates and artists he produced, amongst others, TV-advertised greatest hits or concept albums by Cher, Prince, The Eagles, Rod Stewart, Frank Sinatra, Stone Temple Pilots, Burt Bacharach, Busta Rhymes, Pantera, Linda Ronstadt, The Doors, Fleetwood Mac, Aretha Franklin, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Chicago, Simply Red and international multi-artist compilations such as the hugely successful MTV Unplugged series. Products developed by him and his team sold in excess of 30 million albums.

Prior to that Matthias held the position of European Marketing Manager for TV Concepts and Special Projects at Sony Music’s European Headquarters in London. He oversaw the growth of non-traditional music distribution and licensing, producing amongst many others albums by Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel and Santana. He also facilitated the development of “KuschelRock” – the biggest-selling love songs compilation series in the world, outside the German market place.

Born in Germany, Matthias has two degrees, the Bachelor of Arts International Business (with English and Spanish) and the German degree ‘Diplom-Betriebswirt’. He wrote his first class dissertation about the impact of green issues on corporate strategies in the chemical industry for BAYER AG.

Matthias is very passionate about music with a great passion for jazz, world music, rock, pop and electronic music.
